Lord Kuro is the Divine Heir of the Dragon's Heritage, a child of about ten to twelve years who bears the curse of immortality. Though he has not lived through centuries, his gentle nature and desire to end the unnatural cycle of life and death drive much of the conflict in the Sengoku period. His wish to die naturally draws the attention of those who seek to exploit his power, though Isshin Ashina—the founder of Ashina—opposed such exploitation and never sought to use the Dragon's Heritage for immortality. The path to Kuro's peace requires the intervention of a loyal Shinobi known as Wolf. Wolf was not trained by Kuro; he was a shinobi of the Owl, and his oath to protect Kuro came after being adopted by Owl and later serving Kuro. By severing the connection between Kuro and the Dragon's Heritage—using the Mortal Blade and the Dragon's Tears—the curse is lifted. This allows Kuro to finally rest, ending his unnatural life and preventing the curse from corrupting others further.

Reader's Guide

To achieve this resolution, players must navigate multiple endings that alter Kuro's fate. In the Immortal Severance path, Wolf chooses to kill Kuro to end the curse immediately. This honors their bond but is a violent conclusion. Alternatively, the Purification ending involves healing Kuro with the help of Emma and the Divine Child. Here, Kuro is freed from corruption and passes peacefully. Finally, the Return to Mortality path sees Wolf sacrificing himself to give Kuro's blood to a new heir, breaking the cycle entirely.
